Close Encounter with a Moose of the Worst Kind
Last Monday while taking my wife to her school (her vehicle was in the shop) a moose ran out in front of us.
Actually there were two moose. There were two yearlings that were often see in the area. The strange thing is that they generally were seen near sunrise and sunset and this was about 8:00 a.m. Of course, to make matters worse I was driving into the sun.
At any rate, one of the yearlings ran in front of the car so I slowed down a bit. I never saw his sibling that was apparently right behind him.
Yesterday, I went to the impound lot to remove some items from my car. While there I took some pictures. You can see them at the following webpage: http://www.cheriestihler.com/crash/boom.html.
We are very lucky to be alive or at least to have not been seriously injured. My wife got a bit of a concussion and we both had to get stitches.
Moral of the story is that if you see a moose or deer slow WAY down in case there is another one lurking about.

Wow, crazy damage to your car! Thank god you are both ok! If I do move up there next year, i'll remember not to drive around fast when there are moose out!

Very glad you're OK! You know, I hear tell of some folks that use a rifle to hunt moose. I am impressed by your creativity, though!

If you will remember from high school physics
E = ½ mv²
So an equivalent amount of kinetic energy can be produced by a small very fast moving object or a much larger slower moving object.
I would recommend using the smaller fast moving object.
At least some charitable organization salvaged the moose. It certainly was tenderized.
