First attempt at making wine....

Postby Jshakour » Tue Sep 25, 2007 2:21 am

So i bought 6 gallons of grape juice from www.jwdover.com on that site they have instructions on how to make with their juice. I have no idea what i'm doing, can somebody check out the site, skim the instructions and help me out?

Im guessing I let the juice get to room temperature and then add the yeast, then im totally lost. The guy at my local brew store only confused me further.

Any help is much appreciated.

So far i figured out that I should wait 24 hours for the "wild yeast" to relax. I will be adding the yeast I purchased in 10 minute increments so that i do not have a mess!

i will keep it in the primary fermenter for about 14 days then move it to a 6 gal carboy for about 30 days, rack back to the fermenter bucket to clean out the carboy, then rack back to the carboy after it is clean.

God help me!!!!!

Man, that sounds pretty intense. The only wine I've made was apple cider wine and some mead. Both turned out pretty well but neither had anything to do with wild yeast and such. Just regular old champagne yeast, a little sugar, honey, and that's about it. Good luck with that one, it sounds interesting, and keep us posted on how things are going, I'd be interested to try it.

Depending on the hydrometer reading tomorrow, it might be time for my first racking to a carboy.

I would be interested in hearing about a hard cider.

I racked the juice on Friday. Fermentation is still occurring, it has slowed down quite a bit though.

I am going to start a cherry wine in hte up and coming weeks. I'll keep you posted.
