Do you have the Beer Machine or Mr Beer. I'm just wondering because I've been trying to compare them for a blog post and may need your input. You obviously like whichever one you have so that's cool. On that topic, has anyone every tried one of those Coopers Microbreweries? I've never tried any of them but for the sake of haven't a complete set of brewing information here I figured I'd gather some data.

I made a batch of Coopers Dark Ale from Monster in Jan 08. It was ok but nothing to write home about. However, my family liked it, so what do I know..

The Coopers 'International Series' of canned Malt extracts were significantly better than the old ones I thought. Not my usual ingredients though.

Are the Coopers kits pretty popular in Australia?

Yeah, a lot of people brew just with the Coopers kits from the supermarket and aren't even aware there are specialty stores with higher quality and more diverse ingredients. I know this cause while I'm at uni I've been working nights in a supermarket, several times I've caught customers buying the Coopers kits and told them they should check out the specialty store as its only a few suburbs away (Brewcraft should be paying me a commission  ) Now that Coopers have also got that range of Coopers brewing sugars (they're a variety of Glucose, Light malt and Malto-dextrine mixes) I suspect people are making a lot better beer with them than they were when they were just adding a kilogram of table sugar to the wort.

I've tried the Coopers mexican cervaza with one of the Coopers brewing sugars, it was actually a crowd pleaser, very drinkable though not my favourite style of beer (the yeast they put with this one is actually a blend of Ale and Lager yeasts to expand its temp range, I'd probably use a straight Lager yeast next time, though that would cost increase the overall cost.)

I've also tried the Coopers Australian Pale Ale, with some yeast I cultivated out of a bottle of Coopers pale ale, 1/2kg dry pale malt, 1/2kg white cane sugar, a 15grams Pride of Ringwood hops. I was trying to clone Coopers Pale Ale, it was a success but not quite a clone in the end.
