Postby brewersr » Mon Dec 15, 2008 6:29 am

I had a few bugs but not Dave's Homebrew Alchemist is now available for download for Macs. Any Mac users, please try to download it and see if it works. Thanks a lot.

I've never been able to get it to work on my Mac but I thought perhaps it is because I have a fairly old version of Microsoft Office. I believe I have Office 2004 though I periodically download updates whenever they become available.

Do I need a new version of Office?

If not, I guess I will download the file again and see how it goes. My previous problems may very well have been "pilot error".

Hey Stihler,

What problems exactly were you having?
This program was made on a PC. Most of it was made with Excel '98, so I don't think it is a version problem.
It may be that PC Excel and Mac Excel are not compatible? I really don't know. If you can give me very specific information on what errors you're getting, or what exactly isn't working for you, I may be able to find the problem. I don't/have never used a Mac, so the more specific you are, the better.

Cheers
Dave

Basically nothing happens.

I could load the program and view it but I was not able to change any of the fields.

I eventually just deleted the file since I assumed it was a problem on my end.

When I get a chance I'll download the program again and see if I still have the problem.

Okay I downloaded the file again etc.

The Choose buttons for batch size and equipment do not work.

I cannot seem to change much.

I can type my name and enter the amount of malt or hops but I cannot put in the malt or hop type. Are there supposed to be pull downs? There are boxes that I assume are for pull downs but....

When I click on the various fields I get The cell or char you are trying to change is protected and therefore read only.

When I try to change the protections I am asked for a password.

It sounds like this is the key. Once I have the password things should work (in theory).

So what is the password? You may, of course, e-mail me or send me a private message with the password if you'd like.

This program relies heavily on Userforms. If the Mac version of Excel doesn't support them, then the program will not function. This may be the culprit, but I have no way of knowing for sure, as I don't mess with Mac's.
The passwords are there to prevent unintentional f-ups, not from any desire to keep any information a secret. The passwords are:
Sheet Password - wyldeside
Project Password - 6cleartone.

If you decide to go delving into the nuts and bolts of this monster, be aware of the wholly non-linear flow of information. Sorry, but that's just in my nature. :)

If you come up with anything, please let me know. I was really hoping that this would work for Mac's.

Thanks and...
Cheers

I had high hope but alas it was not meant to be.

I changed the protections and the program still does not work for me.

Oh well...it is a good thing I have BeerTools Pro.

It was worth a try.

Perhaps others will have better luck.
