New Zealand Hops (anybody interested?)

Postby jeepguy » Fri May 16, 2008 6:00 pm

I just got new hops i can order from (New Zealand).
Would anybody be interested in any of these in pellet or loose?
I can get them at a good rate so i can sell at a good rate. All should be under $3.00 per ounce or less.
I can only order a small amount every week but if anybody wants a bunch i can stock up for them if they order.
Just thought i would see if you guys were interested.

Below I've listed the Varieties of Leaf, then Pellet Hops I can order now.
Loose Hops

Styrian Golding: Alpha 2.9
The Original Styrian Golding was actually a Fuggle transplanted from England to Slovakia. Hops are one of the most sensitive plants anywhere in transmitting characteristics from their environment. In Slovakia, the Styrian Golding lost most of its earthy and woody characteristics and exhibited the clean lager bitterness with spicy aroma Eastern Europe prizes. This transplant to New Zealand holds onto those characteristics very well. This is a true Old World Aroma Hop.

Sticklebract: Alpha 14.1
In spite of the high alpha, this is a true dual purpose hop with a low cohumulone and high percentage of oils. It retains some of the woody, earthiness from its Fuggle parentage.

Super Alpha: Alpha 13.3
The name of this hops is somewhat misleading. This hop is a low resin, mild dual purpose hop with notes of lemongrass.

Riwaka: Alpha 6.5
This is a hop that makes an excellent sub for your classic West Coast Beers. Both the flavor and alpha profiles are closer to the classic examples from Yakima with a lot of familiar citrus, resiny, and grapefruit flavors to add zest to the beer.

Pacific Hallertau: Alpha 5.3%
Do NOT confuse this hop with the other Hallertau strains listed here. This lovely hop has a lower alpha with orange zest and floral notes. Only a few New Zealand hops mimic the citrus tones of American hops and this one is the most delicate and aromatic of them, providing citrus without pine resin notes. The hop it's most comparable to is probably Amarillo

Hallertau Aroma: Alpha 9.1
Consider this your "Super Hallertau." Similar Hallertau oil profile with a lot more alpha and a touch of lime. Clean and Spicy.

Green Bullet: Alpha 13.2
This is the New Zealand Hop that the largest number of domestic brewers are familiar with. It's been a staple of bittering hops in professional brewery circles for decades. It earned that distinction by providing bitterness without harshness, herbal flavors, or astringency.

NZ Golding: Alpha 3.7
Unlike the "Styrian Golding" this Golding has a direct lineage back to the County of Kent in England. A lot of floral aroma remains and it's a solid replacement for Goldings whether from the U.S. or England.

I would be interested to know how people take to these. Being from Australia I have tasted some of these myself, and have found them worthy, but I'd like to hear the evaluation of beer lovers abroad.
