Re: Octoberfest (need grain help)
CRAP!!!!! Day 4 in the primary and all of a sudden.......... No bubbles. It has been a little hotaround here lately so I added 2 extra ice bottles to the cooler and I think it is too cold. Will the yeast wake back up when the temp comes back up?? There is no way this could be done in 4 days so I am a little worried.

Re: Octoberfest (need grain help)
No bubbles at ALL? Or is it very very slow?
If it has been unusually hot, then it's possible that the yeast have finished the job. Take a hydrometer reading and see where you stand. If you're still high, then try letting your fermenter warm up a bit, and shake it to get the yeast back in suspension. That might get your yeast going again. If that doesnt work, you may need to repitch your yeast.
First things first though...check your gravity.

Re: Octoberfest (need grain help)
Well gang, patients is a vertue they say. I just took a sample for the gravity reading (and tasting of course). It is done. It went from 1.056 to 1.014 in less than a week. I am impressed. The color is dead on what I was looking for, just a tad lighter than Sam's Octoberfest. The flavor is amazing. I can't wait for this one to carb up and get cold. I am going to bottle this batch so I know I will have some time to wait but it should be worth it. Thanks to everyone that helped on this one!!!

Re: Octoberfest (need grain help)
WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!! Ok, I popped the first top tonight. This little experiment of mine has really paid off. I got the perfect color out of it that I was looking for. And for the first time perfect carbonation. The taste on another note, is awesome, just awesome. If you like Octoberfests but can't lager, and if you like a less bitter beer, this is a great one. The hop aroma is there but without all the bitterness. I think I hit the jackpot on this one. I am going to do it again for my next batch and see if I can duplicate it or was it a fluke.

Re: Octoberfest (need grain help)
Thats great!
Its funny, but the one thing that I didn't like about Sam Adam's Oktoberfest is the hoppiness. While it's a nice thing in other beer styles, I didn't like it in the Oktoberfest. Sounds like you've made a wonderful beer!
Take it easy, and Congrats!
Cheers
