The Big Homebrew Label Thread
I see that there is a forum for Wine Labels in the Wine Cellar, but nothing for Homebrew labels.
Well, seeing as how traffic has been a bit slow, I've decided to start "The Big Homebrew Label Thread". This only becomes a "Big Homebrew Label" thread, if everyone posts their labels, so I'm counting on you folks to keep me honest, and make this thread a big one.
In order to keep the board clean, I'd recommend uploading your images to Tinypic.com first, and use their IMG link in your thread. There's nothing worse than having to wait half an hour for a mondo huge image to load up, which is so big that you can't even see it all on your screen. I know, I've done this.
I'll get it started with two versions of the same label. One of them has the lettering, the other is still blank.

I like this one, but I've gotten a few comments that the banners were too 'Bright' for the rest of the label.

So, I made the rest of the label brighter!
Which one do you folks prefer?
Cheers
Dave

Very nice Stihler! I think my favorites would have to be the Trappist Ale label, and the B.M.U.S. Stout.
C'mon folks! 25 views, and only 1 reply? Maybe it's because you guys haven't done much label making?
I use Photoshop to do most of the editing, and the free Avery Design Pro program for adding in the text and printing. But you don't have to come out of pocket to get started. You can download GIMP for free, which seems to be a very full featured (though not terribly user friendly) photo editing program.

For artwork, I use images.google.com to search out images and clipart that I can use for homebrew labels.
There you go! Everything you need to get started with Homebrew Label Making.
Now, let's see some labels!

Re: The Big Homebrew Label Thread
Ah, A homebrew Label Thread! I think I may sometimes have more fun making the labels than I do brewing the beer.
Here's a couple of labels that I put together:

An label that I put together for a Blonde Ale for my buddy's wedding. His surname is Yarnall, so it was easy to name it. Fortunately, he and the bride like skulls, so I could work them in to the design.

The label for my Pale Ale, Suckerpunch Pale Ale.

My most recent design, for my robust coffee porter. It's almost black, so I decided to pay homage to Johnny Cash by naming it after one of his songs.
Let me know what you think! Once I get my current project finished up, I'll post that one.

Re: The Big Homebrew Label Thread
VERY nice! I particularly like the Hey Porter label, since I'm a guitar player and love Johnny Cash!
I agree with you 100 percent, that the label making was almost as fun as brewing up a batch of beer. It's a great way to personalize the beer that you worked so hard to brew.
This was my first label, and I look forward to making many more. But here's a question for you folks. What do you use to apply the label to your beer bottles (providing you don't use label paper, of course)?
Cheers

Cool labels, Danny!
I particularly liked the Yarnale.
If I labels bottles they are usually gifts so I don't care how hard it is to remove the labels later. I usual just use rubber cement to attach the labels.
For easily removed labels I've heard milk works quite well.
Of course, for kegged beer I just attach the label to the keg with Scotch Tape. It's not pretty but it works.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I use milk to apply my labels. Just plain ol' skim. i print them on standard copy/printer paper, dip the labels in a dish of milk, and apply them to the bottles. Use a dry dish towel to remove excess milk drips. After an hour or so, they're dry and stuck pretty well on the bottle. And after a quick soak in a warm oxyclean/PBW bath, they slide right off for bottle reuse. I was a skeptic at first, but I'm now a believer!
Best of luck!
Danny

Re: The Big Homebrew Label Thread
Mkay, there aren't very many labels here. I'll keep this one alive a little while longer. Here's a label I made for an IPA. I've never brewed an IPA, but here's a label for one anyway.

What do you guys think?

Re: The Big Homebrew Label Thread
Hey, I love the celtic patterns. I was looking for some of those when I was labling a red irish ale I did a while back. I used to print onto proper labeling paper but it's too hard to get off again for the next brew, now I use regular paper and glue stick it on. I haven't done a label for a while now, I've just been using the colour coded bottle caps, but now I'm inspired.

Hey Everyone!
New Brewer and my first post.
I am starting to label and was wondering the best paper to use for the labels.
Also does soaking in milk make the ink run on the labels?
has anyone tried to use goo-be-gone to get avery labels of bottles??
any suggestions greatly appreciated. will post my label as soon as its finished

Here are a few labels me and my older sons have done.
Home - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting
my favorite one is below - It really was from the 3rd batch I made.

I don't take credit for the "rocking chair ale" label. I believe I stole it from someone else many years ago.

Re: The Big Homebrew Label Thread

Here's the label for my Blonde, Hop Ambition Blonde Ale. I don't know why but somehow Madonna came to mind when I was trying to name it, so I went with it. Unfortunately, the bottles never got labeled, partially because my wife drank all of them before the labels got printed. hey, at least she's supportive, right?
Cheers!
