Water question

Postby Jshakour » Thu Apr 09, 2009 2:44 am

Sorry I have been MIA, but now that things have calmed down some the itch has come back!!!!!!!!

My question is this....

I boiled 2 gallons of water about 3 weeks ago and put it in the fridge, this will be added to the wort to bring the temp down, do you think it is ok to use still b/c of the time period? Its really no big deal for me to biol up another 2 gallons, I was just curious.

Hmmm...that's a good question.

Refrigerator my their very nature tend harbor bacteria, fungi etc.

If you water was sealed well it is probably okay but you don't really know.

You'd be sure if you simply boiled some more water. I guess it comes down to as Clint Eastwood would say Do you feel lucky...?

On the other hand, nothing ventured, nothing gained. In this case, you stand to gain increased knowledge regarding stored water viability by gambling a bit, or lose perhaps a few gallons of brew, a situation while deplorable, is still not the end of the world............

Blashpemer!
Seriously though, it'll take a few minutes of time to boil some more water, versus possibly losing a batch...I gotta vote for boiling some fresh water.

Cheers,
